More and more we’re seeing
beer breweries canning beer. Here is one example of canned beer, Carolina
Flagship IPA, 5.9% ABV. Flagship is a 2006 Great American Beer Festival
English-style IPA gold medal winner. They accomplish the taste of the Flagship
IPA from a generous dry hopping of Cascade Hops. Flagship pours an amber/copper
color with a one finger of white head. The head fades quickly into small
lacing. There is some light coming though the glass with a nice amount of
carbonation. The aroma is floral with nice bitter citrus notes and a tiny herbal
scent. The taste is a nice ripe bittersweet grapefruit and grapefruit juice. There
is bitterness from the generous hops. There also is a slight orange juice
flavor there, but a little bitter orange. The mouth feel is light to medium,
leaving a nice quick taste in your mouth. Flagship does clean up nice and doesn’t
linger on your tongue or in your mouth. This IPA does finish nice with a big
bitter grapefruit taste that is real nice, and goes right into the aftertaste.
The aftertaste is smooth with big grapefruit notes and touch of a floral note.
This is a solidly brewed classic IPA, and a prime example of a good IPA. I am
giving this an A. If you’ve never had an IPA this is a perfect IPA style beer
to try. The entire flavors are balanced just right and come together well, make
for a nice drinkable IPA. I totally recommend this IPA. I would love to have this
again! So should you! Remember to come on over to Mike’s Discount Beverages
4700 Park Rd, Charlotte NC 28209. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
