Boddington's Pub Ale

Some beers have a gimmick to them that is a bit off the wall, like rifling in the neck of the bottle a punch top for a smoother pour. Well some don’t really benefit drinker and very few do. This is Boddingtons Pub ale, 4.7% ABV and this is an English pale ale. The nifty thing about this one pint can is that inside there is a clear round like object that is filled with co2 which gives you a draught pour or as Boddingtons calls it Droughtflow system. So when you pour Boddingtons into a glass, it is like you were pouring it from a tap at the pub. Boddingtons has been around since 1778, and was first brewed at the Strangeways Brewery in Manchester England. Boddingtons only come is a pint and in four one pint packages. Boddingtons pours a semi deep gold color with a two and a half finger of thick, very bright white head that is like a snow blanket. The head never faded from my glass and left very nice lacing. I found decent amounts of light and very tiny, small carbonation bubbles, but I had to look very closely to find these bubbles. The aroma is creamy with a very fine hint of earth floral scents. But it was very big on the creaminess. There is also a faint piney scent. The taste on Boddingtons is a big creaminess with a very faint hop note that fades quickly. I found there to be a very small malt character hidden among the creamy taste. But there really aren’t any big amazing flavors to this beer. Everything is nice, mellow, and smooth. The mouth feel is light and smooth, and the beer finishes nicely. Boddingtons aftertaste is just as creamy but not for to long, as the aftertaste does fade a little quickly. This beer did not blow me away or wow me, but I did enjoy this. So I am giving this a B-. I found this beer to be a tiny bit on the dull/boring side of things but its overall taste is good. The co2 device inside does help the beer and make for a good creamy taste, not much hoppy earth notes on this pale ale, but like I said the creamy flavor makes up for that and turns this into one heck of a easy drinker. So would I have it again yes and would recommend this to most anyone. Please go out and try this and see what you think. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Blue Moon Valencia Grove Amber

Some people may say that the more common beer is the less good tasting it is, and some of that is true and some is not true. But Blue Moon is a more common beer and most of their beers are good, some more than others. This is a new spring seasonal beer for them, replacing the previous, Spring Blonde Wheat Ale. This new beer is Valencia Grove Amber 5.9% ABV, brewed with roasted malts, Valencia orange peel and a touch of wheat. Valencia Grove Amber pours a light cooper color with a half finger of a thin white head that is gone really quick. I did find a lot of light streaming through the glass with huge amounts of tight carbonation bubbles. The aroma was a big orange with a slight bit of sourness to it, no wheat there in the aroma. The aroma reminded me little of an orange lollypop. The taste is a bit strange with a malt flavor that is around the orange that makes it all taste a bit sour towards the end, and with a very small, faint wheat flavor that almost isn’t there. There is a slight caramel sweetness but not enough, it get pushed out but the big orange bitter flavor. The mouth feel is somewhat light with a big amount of carbonation on you tongue. Valencia Grove Amber finish light with a bit of sourness, but more of bitterness than sour. The aftertaste is a big semi bitter/sour like orange and a little hint of sweet malts. The aftertaste doesn’t to long, but does linger for a few seconds. I was disappointed in the beer, but not enough to stay this beer is awful, just enough to give it a C-. There is just too much going on with this beer, and none of the flavors, ingredients work to together well. They all seem to make the beer not a good. It sounds better then it taste. Would I have another one? Maybe I will, but it will take a while to get me to have it again. This isn’t the worst tasting beer from Blue Moon but it’s close. You can try this if you want, but I don’t really recommend it. This is just a C- beer here, not my favorite. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Ayinger Jahrhundert-Bier

Germans sure can brew beer well. This is Ayinger Jahrhundert-Bier, 5.50% ABV. This is a century Celebration Bavarian Lager, a Dortmunder/export lager. Ayinger is one of my top favorite German breweries. This lager pours a hazy lemon/ dark yellow color with a three and a half finger bright fluffy white head. The head is slow to fad and leave great thick lacing behind. I found this beer to be too hazy to allow light to peer though the glass and I barely saw the carbonation bubbles due to the hazy color. The aroma on this export lager is big rip and fresh yeasty lemon. It smells light, crisp and refreshing. The taste is light and has a lemon taste that fills your entire mouth. The mouth feel is light, crisp, clean and refreshing. This lager does finish nicely with a hint of carbonation on you tongue. The aftertaste doesn’t stay long, but what does it the light yeasty lemon. This is a very taste export lager. It’s definitely getting A+ from me. I could have this all day, and would be great on a hot day. I would highly recommend this to any and everyone. This is such wonderful beer. I would have this again in a heartbeat. So please go out and pick this up and try it, you will not be disappointed at all! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Anchor Brekle's Brown

Here is another Anchor beer, this is their Brekle’s Brown ale, 6.0% ABV, an all malt single hop brown ale. This beer is named after the founding brewer Gottlieb Brekle. This is a beer is somewhat new, no sure when it was first introduced. Brekle’s brown pours a deep brown color with a tan one finger fluffy head that fades at medium speed and leaves some lacing. I found there to be no light coming through the glass with little carbonation bubbles. The aroma is strong on this with big roasted malts with a hint of bitterness, but more of a roasted bitterness. There was also a very faint dark raisin to it. The taste on Brekle’s Brown is big roasted malt with a slight hint of chocolate and coffee. The mouth feel is high medium side but smooth. This beer finishes a bit bitter but good a over all finish and the aftertaste really stays with a smooth roasted flavor This is not the worlds best brown ale, but it’s a good one. So I am giving this a B. Yeah I’ve had better brown ales, and this is list of good brown ales. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a lighter dark beer or just new brown ale. I would go for this again. This is something to try! Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat

I always like a good fruity wheat beer and I like some more that others. Here we have Lost Coast Tangerine wheat 5.0% ABV. I’ve never had any other Lost Coast beers before. So this is my first. Tangerine Wheat pours a deep golden straw orange color with a one finger bright white head that fades very quickly and leaves no lacing. There is a small amount of light peeking through the glass and some small amount of carbonation. The aroma is a huge citrus bomb of big tangerines and a little bitter orange. I could smell this beer from a ways away. The taste on Tangerine Wheat is a big tangerine and small bitter orange and no wheat flavor to be found, which is a bit of a let down. The mouth feel is light, crisp, and yet refreshing. The finish is clean and with citrus fruit. The aftertaste is a big tangerine. Overall this beer is good but a let down as well. This is getting a C from me, just because it was all fruit, tangerine, and bitter orange, and nothing else. I was hoping for a nice wheat flavor there, but no, just too much tangerine. I am not saying this beer was bad, nasty, gross, or anything. It just was not what I was hoping for. Would I have this again? Maybe but I will not run out and get this right away. I would cautiously recommend this beer. I didn’t not hate this one, I just found it a little bit boring. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
